Measures to Prevent Wire Fire and Matters Needing Attention in The Event of Fire

Wire and cable are wire products used to transmit electrical energy, information and realize electromagnetic energy conversion. In a broad sense, coaxial wire and cable are also referred to as cables. In a narrow sense, cable refers to insulated cables. It can be defined as: an aggregate composed of the following parts: One or more insulated cores, and their respective possible coverings, overall protection, and outer sheaths. Cables may also have additional uninsulated conductors.

Measures to prevent wire and cable fire:

1) To ensure the construction quality, especially the production quality of the cable head must strictly meet the specified requirements.

2) Strengthen the monitoring of cable operation to avoid overload operation of the cable.

3) Carry out the cable test on schedule, and deal with it in time if it is found to be abnormal.

4) Regularly clean the dust accumulated on the cable to prevent the accumulated dust from igniting and causing the cable to catch fire.

5) The cable trench should be kept dry to prevent the cable from getting wet, causing the insulation to drop and causing a short circuit.

6) Strengthen the regular verification and maintenance of the cable loop switch and protection to ensure its reliable operation.

7) When laying the cable, keep a sufficient distance from the heat pipe, the control HDMI cable is not less than 0.5 meters; the power cable is not less than 1 meter. Control cables and power cables shall be slotted, layered, and arranged separately, and shall not be overlapped between layers. For the parts that do not meet the regulations, the cables should take flame retardant and heat insulation measures.

8) Install a fire alarm device to detect the fire in time to prevent the cable from catching fire.

9) Take fire and flame retardant measures. Fire retardant measures for cables include:

1. Wrap the cable with heat-insulating and fire-resistant material. When the surrounding of the cable catches fire, the wrapped cable is isolated from the fire by the heat-insulating and fire-resistant material to avoid burning. If the cable itself catches fire, the lack of oxygen in the wrapping body can make the fire self-extinguishing to prevent the fire from spreading outside the wrapping body.

2. The holes of the cable passing through the wall, the bottom of the pan and the shaft should be tightly sealed with refractory materials to prevent the expansion of the fire surface caused by the diffusion and spread of high-temperature smoke when the cable catches fire.

3. Wrap the parts of the cable that need to be fireproof with fireproof tape.

4. Apply fire retardant paint on the surface of the cable.

5. Set up heat-resistant fire insulation boards between the cable layers to prevent channeling between the cable layers and expand the fire situation.

6. Set up sectional partition walls and fire doors in the cable channel to prevent the cables from burning away and expand the fire situation.

10) Equipped with necessary fire fighting equipment and facilities. Fires in overhead cables can be put out with common fire extinguishing equipment, but automatic or remote control fire extinguishing devices, such as 1301 fire extinguishing devices, water spray fire extinguishing devices, etc., should be installed in cable interlayers, shafts, trenches and tunnels.

When there is a cable fire, you should call the police quickly, immediately identify the system and direction of the fire cable, adjust the operation mode of the fire cable as soon as possible, and cut off the power supply of the fire cable to exit the operation. When the cable burns, it will produce toxic gas, so special attention should be paid to the protection of the cable fire fighting.
